SUMMARY:Qualitative Interviewing: Innovations and Issues
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row type=”in_container” full_screen_row_position=”middle” column_margin=”default” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” overlay_strength=”0.3″ shape_divider_position=”bottom” bg_image_animation=”none”][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_link_target=”_self” column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” width=”1/1″ tablet_width_inherit=”default” tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” overlay_strength=”0.3″ column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid” bg_image_animation=”none”][vc_column_text]Interviews are the most widely used qualitative method. Balancing the ability to gather a large amount of data without asking unreasonable commitment from participants, interviews help us understand the lived experience and social practices of people from all across society.
For students using interviews, however, thinking about how to conduct them properly, ethically, sensitively, and insightfully is difficult. They can be emotional encounters, stressful for the participant and researcher, and require a deep level of planning and preparedness.
This workshop is targeted at current doctoral students who are using or planning to use qualitative interviews as a substantial part of their research. The workshop will include four guest academic speakers, exploring various facets of interviewing in their current research. Speakers will give short presentations, before participants are invited to try these methods for themselves or enter discussion about how these ideas are relevant for their own work.
Lunch and refreshments will be provided, and the event will aim to foster an inclusive atmosphere for participants to learn, and talk about issues they are facing in conducting their own interview-based research. The programme for the day can be viewed below.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row type=”in_container” full_screen_row_position=”middle” column_margin=”default” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” overlay_strength=”0.3″ shape_divider_position=”bottom” bg_image_animation=”none”][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_link_target=”_self” column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” width=”1/1″ tablet_width_inherit=”default” tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” overlay_strength=”0.3″ column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid” bg_image_animation=”none”][carousel script=”carouFredSel” easing=”linear”][item id=”1746091364141-3″ tab_id=”1746091364141-4″ title=”Item”][team_member image_url=”12658″ team_memeber_style=”meta_below” link_element=”both” team_member_link_new_tab=”true” color=”Accent-Color” name=”Dr Jon Dean” link_url=”https://www.shu.ac.uk/about-us/our-people/staff-profiles/jon-dean” job_position=”AQualM Director, WRDTP and Associate Professor, SHU”][/item][item title=”Item” id=”1746091364199-5″ tab_id=”1746091364200-6″][team_member image_url=”14127″ team_memeber_style=”meta_below” link_element=”both” color=”Accent-Color” name=”Dr Rebecca Hamer” job_position=”Research Associate, SHU” link_url=”https://www.shu.ac.uk/about-us/our-people/staff-profiles/rebecca-hamer”][/item][item title=”Item” id=”1746091364222-9″ tab_id=”1746091364222-0″][team_member image_url=”14128″ team_memeber_style=”meta_below” link_element=”both” color=”Accent-Color” name=”Dr Matt Hurley” job_position=”Senior Lecturer, SHU” link_url=”https://www.shu.ac.uk/about-us/our-people/staff-profiles/matthew-hurley”][/item][item title=”Item” id=”1746091364252-2″ tab_id=”1746091364252-6″][team_member image_url=”14129″ team_memeber_style=”meta_below” link_element=”both” color=”Accent-Color” name=”Dr Ellen Bennett” job_position=”Senior Lecturer, SHU” link_url=”https://www.shu.ac.uk/about-us/our-people/staff-profiles/ellen-bennett”][/item][/carousel][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row type=”in_container” full_screen_row_position=”middle” column_margin=”default” bg_color=”#125f9f” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” overlay_strength=”0.3″ shape_divider_position=”bottom” bg_image_animation=”none” shape_type=””][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_link_target=”_self” column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” width=”1/1″ tablet_width_inherit=”default” tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” overlay_strength=”0.3″ column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid” bg_image_animation=”none”][divider line_type=”No Line”][vc_column_text]
