What are diary methods?
How can they be used?
Why use them? 

Drawing on a previous PhD research project that employed diary methods, the session will provide practical examples of key considerations when designing and conducting diary-based research. Participants will explore common challenges of using the diary method, along with practical strategies for addressing them. 
This session is suitable for those who are completely new to diary methods and would like an introduction, as well as researchers who are in the early stages of planning or conducting research using diary methods.

Dr Zoe Baker is a Lecturer in Education at the University of Sheffield. She has been researching issues of inequality and social justice in the field of higher education for over ten years. During this time, she has undertaken research roles in academia and the private sector, and has completed commissioned research for the third sector. Zoe’s work explores inequalities in higher education access, progression and outcomes (including equitable access to graduate employment) for care-experienced people.
Dr Abi Tazzyman is a Lecturer in Social Research Methods at the University of Sheffield, and is also Deputy Director of Advanced Qualitative Methods (AQualM) for the WRDTP.
