LFS2021 – The Sustainable Fund

This fund will award two projects that promote sustainability in the region. It will be open to small businesses and students of the universities of the funding partnerships. Each of the awards will be £500 to cover the expenses. The initiative must take place by the 30th of June 2021.

PURPOSE & AIMS

The Sustainable Fund seeks to invest in the society by promoting sustainability within local communities, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations to be achieved by 2030. We aim at having a real impact in the daily lives of our communities to raise awareness of the need to become more conscious consumers. To do so, the fund pursues to engage with four of the SDGs: sustainable cities and communities (Goal 11), responsible consumption and production (Goal 12), climate action (Goal 13) and partnerships for the goals (Goal 17).

SCOPE & ELIGIBILITY

The Sustainable Fund will award two initiatives:

1 Student-led initiative: the project must be a collaborative effort of a student or group of students with their community to promote sustainability. For example, it could be an initiative to visit local schools to give talks about Sustainable Development Goals and how we can engage as individuals.

c. The institution/partner that they will be collaborating with;

d. A detailed budget of the expenses.

All the students must be part of the Universities in the funding partnerships (N8, NINE DTP, White Rose DTP, NWSSDTP): Keele University, Lancaster University, University of Liverpool, University of Manchester, University of York, University of Leeds, Durham University, Newcastle University, University of Sheffield, University of Bradford, Sheffield Hallam University, University of Hull, and Manchester Metropolitan University, Northumbria University (Newcastle), Queen’s University (Belfast), Ulster University, Teesside University, University of Sunderland.

2 Local business initiative: the project could include a series of improvements to engage with a more sustainable business model; or it could be a collaborative initiative to promote sustainability in their local community.

This award is limited to business in the fashion industry in the UK.

The panel will be formed by Lynn Wilson, Oliver Kennedy and Julia Marcet.

After the initiative has taken place, the winners must provide pictures and a brief explanation of the outcomes by the 31 st of July 2021.
