WRDTP 12th Annual Conference
The White Rose Doctoral Training Partnership holds its 12th Annual Conference at the University of Leeds on the 20th June 2023. The conference is a great opportunity to network with other doctoral researchers, share your research experiences, find out more about the training on offer from the DTP Pathways and meet your Pathway Director. The theme for this year’s conference is Reflecting on the War in Ukraine.
Putin’s invasion of Ukraine has changed the world forever, reshaping geopolitical alliances, challenging energy and food security, and raising the spectre of nuclear deployment. The war has also resulted in humanitarian catastrophe, displacing millions of Ukrainian citizens, along with thousands of casualties of war. As the war in Ukraine enters its second year, the WRDTP’s 13th Annual Conference will provide an opportunity for us to come together and reflect on the implications of the war in terms of the significant social and societal challenges that we all face.
Our opening panel will bring together academic experts from across the UK and beyond to discuss a range of critical issues that the war in Ukraine has underscored. These include the defence of human rights; constructions of nationhood; the impacts of war on vulnerable and marginalised people; and the uses of surveillance technology in conflict settings. Afternoon sessions will further consider the implications of the war in Ukraine for each of the pathway areas.
