Research and career:

Current job title: Evaluation Manager

Give a brief overview of your current role and responsibilities:

I currently work as Evaluation Manager for the Ministry of Justice’s BOLD (Better Outcomes through Linked Data) Programme, where I lead evaluations of pilot projects aimed at reducing reoffending and tackling homelessness. My role spans the full research cycle, from designing evaluation frameworks and collecting data to analysing findings and producing reports. I work closely with senior colleagues and cross-departmental stakeholders to ensure that evidence informs policy and drives meaningful change.

Describe your journey from your PhD to your current role:

Since my PhD, my career has combined roles in academia and the Civil Service, focusing on impact research and the evaluation of key social programmes through rigorous methods. Alongside this, I have held teaching roles, provided consulting in my field of expertise, and collaborated with colleagues worldwide on academic projects. I now lead evaluations at the Ministry of Justice on projects addressing key social issues such as reoffending and homelessness.

In what way did your experience with the WRDTP prepare you for your current career?

The WRDTP provided high quality technical skills training that I continue to apply in my evaluation work today. It also gave me the chance to learn from others’ experiences and career paths, which helped me make informed decisions about my own direction.

What advice would you give to current or future WRDTP postgraduate researchers?

If you have the capacity, take every training opportunity you can, as the skills will stay with you. Learn from others’ experiences and career paths to gain fresh insights. Explore new activities and build friendships to share the journey. Above all, stay curious and enjoy this unique process.
