Research: Engagement with Parliament and Policy Makers
PGRs from all partner institutions and Interdisciplinary Pathways are invited to apply for a place at this in-person CDD Pathway event.
This workshop will examine how researchers can give their work a policy focus and how they can promote it within parliament – legislation, engaging with select committees, MPs and All-Party Groups. It will also consider the roles of ministers and civil servants, and the scope and difficulties of promoting research to government.
Speaker Huw Edwards is a Training Consultant specializing in policy engagement for university researchers. He is currently doing research at the University of Wales on Parliament and Welsh Devolution. Huw was formerly MP for Monmouth, serving on the Welsh Affairs Select Committee, and was Vice Chair of the All-Party Groups on Learning Disabilities and Carers. Prior to Westminster, Huw was Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Social Policy at several universities, including one very happy year at Sheffield.
Please note: A very limited number of places are available for this session, and we anticipate high demand. We therefore ask PGRs interested in attending to apply for a place by completing a Google form, including 200-300 words on how they expect the session to benefit them/their research project. Places will be allocated to PGRs once submissions have been reviewed by the WRDTP team, and we will then contact those who have been allocated a place.
No pre-reading or preparation is required for this event, but PGRs allocated a place will be asked to bring a laptop. Refreshments will be provided.
This event will be delivered face-to-face only and will not be recorded.
Eventbrite bookings are not being taken for this training session. Interested PGRs are asked to apply for a place by completing a Google form, which can be accessed by clicking ‘APPLY NOW’ below.
We will consider all applications received by the deadline of 5pm on Friday 28th February.
