Understanding what you want from life beyond your PhD

When you’re managing a busy PhD, it can be difficult to take time out to think about what might be next for you in your career journey. Whatever your background or motivation, this interactive virtual workshop is designed to give you time and space to identify your skills and strengths, recognise which of these you most want to use in your future work, and start to put together a ‘guide’ for your next steps.

This is a reflective workshop in which you will be invited to consider on your own work and experiences and to share ideas with the group (if you wish).

To get the most out of the workshop, you are encouraged to engage with the interactive exercises which comprise most of the session. You will have multiple options available to share thoughts and ideas with the group, including using your microphone and contributing in a written ‘chat’ box.

There will be no breakout rooms used in the session.

Learning Outcomes

The session aims to help you:

  • Identify your strengths: what comes naturally to you?
  • Recognise the skills you’ve developed through your academic work so far;
  • Identify which of these skills you most want to keep using in your work;
  • Identify what ‘difference’ you want your work to make;
  • Put all this together to compose a ‘guide statement’ to inform your future career decision making.

This event will be accessed via a Zoom link. Students who book onto this course will be sent a link before the event via email.

PLEASE NOTE: This training session will not be recorded.
