Call for applications: WRDTP Pathway Deputy Director – Sustainable Growth, Business, Work and Economic Productivity (SBE)

The White Rose Doctoral Training Partnership is seeking to recruit a Pathway Deputy Director in the Sustainable Growth, Business, Work and Economic Productivity (SBE) interdisciplinary pathway.

WRDTP Pathway teams are responsible for delivering a programme of pathway-specific research training that is cutting edge and responsive to PhD students’ training and development needs. Each of our pathways brings together researchers from a range of disciplinary backgrounds to identify and develop the added value of social science in addressing important and pressing societal challenges.

For this role we are looking for academic colleagues with:

  • enthusiasm for research methods training and a genuine commitment to PGR support and development.
  • experience of delivering PGR training and/or support.
  • a background in interdisciplinary research relevant to the Pathway.

Pathway Deputy Director roles have an indicative workload of 0.1fte, and an expected term duration of 3 years. The workload allocation is to provide post-holders and line managers with a realistic sense of the time that is required to undertake the role. Please note that the post is not remunerated, and does not come with ‘buy-out’ funding.  All seven partner institutions, via the WRDTP Management Group, have committed to ensuring the in-kind resources necessary (i.e. colleagues’ time) to enable colleagues to participate in the governance and delivery of the WRDTP.

The post has a start date of 1 December 2025 (or as soon as possible thereafter).  The post will be held by a colleague in an accredited department from one of our seven partner universities.
These posts are being advertised across 5 of our partner institutions, including the University of Bradford, University of Hull, Manchester Metropolitan University, Sheffield Hallam University and the University of York.  When making an appointment, attention will be paid to the overall composition of the Pathway team to ensure equitable and distributed representation of our partner universities.  We particularly welcome applications from colleagues at the University of Bradford.
To apply for one of these posts, please submit a short CV and an expression of interest (750 words max) indicating a) the skills and attributes you will bring to the role and b) your ideas for a programme of pathway-specific PGR training. You should also confirm that the 0.1 FTE buyout has been agreed by your Head of Department/School. Please ensure that you have read the pathway description and Pathway Deputy Director role description prior to application.
The deadline for applications is midday on Friday 14 November 2025.  Interviews will be held on Thursday 27 November 2025.

Applications should be sent to training@wrdtp.ac.uk. If you would like to discuss this role informally, you are welcome to contact Professor Ryan Powell, White Rose DTP Director, r.s.powell@sheffield.ac.uk.
