Research and career:
Current job title:
Mortality Review Practitioner in the NHS (Sector: Public Administration, Education & Health/Social Care)
Give a brief overview of your current role and responsibilities:
Research and analysis of mortality data. Using data to develop research initiatives and develop training and service improvement.
Describe your journey from your PhD to your current role:
I was accepted to the role straight from my PhD as I also had a background in healthcare.
In what way did your experience with the WRDTP prepare you for your current career?
Without the confidence to undertake research independently I wouldn’t be able to practice in my role. I also have to work with people from all different levels of experience and seniority.
What advice would you give to current or future WRDTP postgraduate researchers?
Academia is not the ‘be all and end all’. If it doesn’t feel the right fit for you, there are plenty of jobs in other areas where your research skills will be appreciated.
