Engagement with Parliament and Policy Makers
PGRs from all partner institutions and all Interdisciplinary Pathways are invited to apply for a place at this in-person event, organised jointly by the CDD and SCJ Pathways. This is a repeat of the event that took place in March 2025.
This workshop will examine how researchers can give their work a policy focus and how they can promote it within parliament – legislation, engaging with select committees, MPs and All-Party Groups. It will also consider the roles of ministers and civil servants, and the scope and difficulties of promoting research to government.
Please note that a limited number of places are available for this session, and we anticipate high demand. We therefore ask PGRs interested in attending to apply for a place by completing a Google form, including 200-300 words on how they expect the session to benefit them/their research project. Places will be allocated to PGRs once submissions have been reviewed by the CDD and SCJ pathway teams, and we will then contact those who have been allocated a place.
No pre-reading or preparation is required for this event, but PGRs allocated a place will be asked to bring a laptop. A light lunch will be provided from 12:15, before the main part of the event begins.
Outcomes
At this event, attendees will:
- Reflect on how individual PGR projects could have a policy focus and on how this could be achieved;
- Identify key ways to engage with the Parliament, including select committees, MPs and All-Party Groups;
- Critically evaluate approaches and challenges to promoting research to policy makers and the government.
