Project Description

Stead & Co. are a RIBA Chartered Architectural Practice. They specialise in delivering residential and community projects, from home extensions to reconfiguring workspaces. They provide a full architectural and design service for a range of clients which include sports clubs, arts organisations, faith groups and homeowners.

They are looking for a Social Impact Researcher to design and lead a study into the “ripple effect” of their community spaces in Brighton and Leeds.

To be successful in this role, you need to understand people, systems and stories. Your goal is to move beyond surface-level statistics to uncover how Stead & Co’s architectural interventions impact other services, wellbeing and social connectivity.

Previous experience related to architecture is not essential for success in this role.

Expected duties will include:

  • Research Design: Develop a robust methodology (qualitative and quantitative) to measure the social impact of two specific community projects, which will hopefully form the basis of evaluating other projects.
  • Systems Mapping: Trace the journey of service users. For example, how does a community kitchen correlate with improved health outcomes or reduced emergency service reliance?
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Conduct interviews, focus groups, and surveys with residents, service providers, and local authorities in Brighton and Leeds.
  • Narrative Building: Move beyond “the number of meals” to capture the “wider stories” of transformation and systemic change.
  • Produce a comprehensive Impact Report that aligns the work with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

You will have the autonomy to define how this research is conducted.
