How to Transition out of Academia Well

This workshop, led by Dr Naomi Tyrrell, is designed to support researchers exploring careers beyond academia. Moving on from academia doesn’t mean starting again; it means building on your existing expertise in new, fulfilling ways.

This session helps participants understand how to identify their strengths, clarify their direction and navigate the emotional and practical realities of career change. By the end of the workshop, researchers will have an actionable plan for their transition and a renewed sense of possibility for what comes next.

This workshop will be offered twice (on Thursday 17th September and Monday 21st September). Please register for one session only, as both sessions will cover the same content.

Outcomes

Participants in the workshop will:

  • Engage with structured reflection, discussion and practical tools;
  • Recognise and reframe academic experience for new contexts;
  • Identify transferable skills and career options;
  • Develop strategies for confidence, clarity and next steps.
