Research and career:
Current job title:
Early Career Fellow at University of Leicester (Sector: Higher Education / Academia)
Give a brief overview of your current role and responsibilities:
Building my research profile by developing grant applications in my research area. Teaching across the Psychology programmes within the School, acting as a personal tutor and supervisor to students across undergraduate taught and postgraduate research programmes.
Describe your journey from your PhD to your current role:
Following submission of my thesis, I was employed as a Lecturer (maternity cover) at University of Chester where I developed my teaching experience and became an AFHEA. I held this role for around 18 months before moving to the University of Leicester to take up the position of Early Career Fellow.
In what way did your experience with the WRDTP prepare you for your current career?
It gave me the confidence and assuredness to network with other likeminded people on a similar journey, and those who I may think are ‘better’ than me (i.e., helped to be a counterfactual to imposter syndrome). It also helped me to think more about career options.
What advice would you give to current or future WRDTP postgraduate researchers?
Engage in these events, your PhD is so much more than your thesis! Connections are currency in academia.
