Advanced Methods Showcase 2025

This event is now closed for bookings. If you are a first year ESRC funded PhD student, please contact training@wrdtp.ac.uk to enquire about booking a place.
Please cancel your ticket if you can no longer attend the event.

The ESRC White Rose DTP is delighted to invite you to attend our Advanced Methods Showcase, hosted and chaired by our Advanced Methods training teams.

The aim of this training event is to provide social sciences doctoral researchers with an introduction to a range of advanced quantitative and qualitative methods and analytical techniques that are commonly used in social science. It will give participants the opportunity to identify methods and techniques relevant to their own research. Most of the techniques discussed here are then examined in depth at training workshops later in the academic year, so by attending this session you can determine which further sessions to attend.

This Advanced Quantitative and Qualitative Methods and Data Analytics training is compulsory for ESRC funded PhD research students who have just embarked on their first year of PhD study i.e.:

  • Students who are starting their PhD study on a 3.5 or 3.75 scholarship in academic year 2024/2025.
  • Students who completed their Masters in Social Sciences Research in September 2024 who are now transitioning to their PhD study on a 1+3 scholarship (first year of PhD).

If you attended the Advanced Methods Showcase whilst completing your MA Social Science Research degree during academic year 2023/2024, please note you do not have to attend this event again, but please inform the WRDTP office via training@wrdtp.ac.uk that you will not be attending.

All non-ESRC funded students from the WRDTP partner institutions are also welcome to attend this training.

Doctoral Researchers need to register with an interdisciplinary themed training Pathway when they book a place at this event. To see which Pathway is appropriate for you, please see the following Pathway summaries here.

Attendees will:

  • Learn about a number of quantitative and qualitative research methods and analytical techniques used in the social sciences.
  • Learn about future quantitative and qualitative methods and analytical techniques training run by the DTP.
  • Learn about what is available in the DTP training resource bank for understanding and learning quantitative and qualitative methods and data analytical techniques.

The schedule for the day can be found at the bottom of this webpage, underneath the ‘BOOK NOW’ button.

This training session will be delivered face-to-face at the University of Sheffield.

This session will be recorded and uploaded to the training resources section of the website after the event.
