Anarchy & Activism – Disrupting Disability
Join us at the University of Leeds or online for thought-provoking discussions, interactive workshops, and inspiring talks. This event is all about challenging norms, breaking barriers, and creating change within and outside of academia.
This half-day workshop is organized by PhD students at the Universities of York, Sheffield and Leeds and is sponsored by the WRDTP Development and Democracy (CDD) Pathway, the Interdisciplinary Global Development Centre at the University of York and iHuman at the University of Sheffield.
The event is open to all ESRC and non-ESRC funded PhD and MA Research students within the WRDTP’s seven partner universities, civil society, activists and self-advocates. Drawing upon the expertise of civil society and academia, this event will draw on the practical and theoretical elements of disability activism in different spaces.
Delegates will contribute through discussions, interactive workshops, posters and talks.
The themes of the event include:
– Intersectional activism,
– Grassroots activism,
– Scholar activism,
– Advocacy.
Key note speaker confirmed: Dr. Meredith Wilkinson (De Montford University), co-chair of DisAbility and Well-being Network (Dawn). Other speakers TBC.
Whether you are a postgraduate or early career researcher, a member of civil society, an activist or self-advocate, there’s something here for everyone. Come and join us to discuss where scholar activism, civil society activism, and practice overlap and how collaborations between research and practice can lead to real-world outcomes.
