Slipping into Skins, Speaking in Dialects: Exploring Digital Identities in AI-Mediated Environments

PGRs from all Interdisciplinary Pathways are invited to attend this in-person event at the University of Leeds, planned by the DCA Pathway Training Team.

The speakers at this event are currently engaged in new research projects which involve utilising creative experimentation and playing as methods to interrogate issues that AI technologies and mediated environments pose specifically for scholars of race, gender and sexualities. Dr Radhika Gajjala and Dr Rianna Walcott will each give a short talk about their ongoing work that includes reflecting on digital avatar creation on Midjourney and questioning the ability of ChatGPT to reproduce – and co-produce – Black vernacular styles, and reflect on the implications of both their findings and their experiences of working with these tools.

Attendees will gain insight into:

  • Creative experimentation and playing as methods in digital media research;
  • Researching AI technologies as part of race, gender and sexualities research and innovation;
  • Researching diaspora and digital cultures.

This event will be delivered face-to-face at the University of Leeds and will be recorded.

As places are limited, we ask that you only book a ticket if you can guarantee your attendance.

Bookings will close at 9am on Friday 14th March.
