An Introduction to Spatial Thinking and Analysis using R as a Crime Mapping Tool
This workshop offers a hands-on introduction to spatial analysis using R. Participants will work through a series of guided examples using editable code to learn about topics such as defining units of analysis, spatial data structures (points, lines, and polygons) and their manipulation and visualisation, and the role of spatial dependence.
No prior knowledge is assumed, but participants are advised to read the preparatory material that will be provided and attend the workshop with a laptop or tablet. If you have R and R Studio installed, you will have more autonomy to edit the examples, but it will be possible to follow along without this too.
Outcomes
By the end of the workshop, participants will have developed their understanding of the relationship between spatial representation, analytical decisions, and interpretation, and how these can be implemented in R.
