
Systematic Literature Reviews in Education
This one-day course will take you through the process of a systematic literature review, with specific attention paid to using Education databases. The course will start with identifying suitable questions for a literature search to answer, through to practical steps on completing the search, and strategies for sifting the results.
Dr Josephine Booth is a Principal Research Fellow at Sheffield Hallam University, and researches in the areas of teacher education, education on climate change and professional development of teachers. She has experience of conducting large-scale, externally-funded systematic literature reviews.
Dr Dee Rutgers is a Research Fellow at Sheffield Hallam University, with interests in multilingualism in education and teacher professional development. She has experience of conducting large-scale, externally-funded systematic literature reviews.
Dr Lisa McGrath is an Associate Professor in Educational Linguistics at Sheffield Hallam University and Deputy Director for the ECY Pathway. Her main areas of expertise are academic writing and English for Research and Publication Purposes (ERPP).
Learning outcomes:
In this one-day course on conducting systematic literature reviews in education, you will learn to:
- Create questions you can answer through your literature review;
- Develop your search strategy, including the use of Boolean operators and ‘wildcards’;
- Identify key databases for your research;
- Understand and use the PRISMA reporting guidelines;
- Export your results to reference management software;
- Develop strategies to sift your results to identify those relevant for your review.
Please note that attendees are asked to bring a laptop to this event.
This training session will be delivered in person at Sheffield Hallam University and will not be recorded.
