Theory Development in Business and Management
Theory development in business and management is the ongoing process of producing, confirming, applying and adapting theory for addressing contemporary practical problems. It is a critical, yet often daunting task for new researchers because it requires making the logic of intellectually rigorous theory-building process explicit and accessible.
This practical workshop aims to demystify what constitutes an effective theory building process and to provide an understanding of, and practical skills for, constructing and communicating a fit for purpose theory in the context of doctoral research.
By the end of the workshop, attendees will:
- Learn about characteristics of a ‘good’ theory and different theory types
- Explore different approaches to and tools for theory building process
- Learn to select and apply theory building approaches in hands-on exercises
- Practice and receive theory development tips for their projects
This training session will be delivered in a hybrid format at the University of Bradford (face-to-face recommended). Attendees will be sent a Microsoft Teams link before the event.
