The successful candidate would be welcome to work mainly in York with staff based there, with at least monthly trips to their London base, which Ridgeway would pay for.

Further Project Details
Ridgeway is seeking a PhD student, with a keen interest in international affairs to join their team researching nuclear non-proliferation and international security. This work is done in support of the UK government and international clients, including the United Nations (UN). As well as conducting open-source research, candidates would also have the opportunity to present their research findings to clients, help in the development of research methodologies, and collaborate with different teams/colleagues on other day-to-day business operations.
Training & Support
As part of the role, Ridgeway will provide training on non-proliferation and open-source research. In addition, the successful candidate will have allocated time (approximately 2-3 hours per week) for an enrichment programme, with the support of a line manager and a mentor. Possible weekly enrichment sessions include: how to run a small business (with the CEO); meeting the trustees of the FAROS Foundation, Ridgeway’s sister charitable company; how to set-up a business in the EU; the life cycle of a large research project; meetings with Ridgeway’s UN and UK government clients; and an introduction to BBC Monitoring.
Skills Required
We are happy to accept expressions of interest from a wide-range of academic backgrounds. We particularly value methodological training, whether qualitative or quantitative. Language skills and an interest in international relations, area studies, or foreign policy will be an advantage.
Financial Contribution Offered by the Host
This placement is offered on an unpaid basis. The host organisation will not cover your PhD funding during the placement. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that their programme funding will continue during the placement.
