Project Description
The School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering at the University of Sheffield helps to create and protect the world we live in. Driven by excellence, they inspire and empower their researchers and students to engineer a better future.
They are looking for a Research Assistant to investigate the ways in which the design of medical devices and other products influences healthcare inequalities (described by NHS England as ‘unfair and avoidable differences in health across the population, and between different groups within society’), and the potential impact personalised manufacturing could have in reducing them. The overall aim of the role is to gain a comprehensive and detailed understanding of this area, and to identify the most important areas in which to direct current and future research in order to provide the greatest impact.
Experience in manufacturing, healthcare, or other related areas may be some benefit, but is not essential for success in this role.
The main duties of this role will be to investigate the current landscape for personalised manufacturing, identifying examples of best practice, key barriers to further uptake, and unexplored areas with the most potential. This may be achieved through a combination of literature review, structured interviews and/or focus groups with stakeholders (e.g. researchers, clinicians, patients, regulators/policy makers) or any other creative approaches the researcher proposes.
Please note this opportunity has been advertised across multiple Doctoral Training Partnerships (DTPs).
