Project Description
Sussex Police is the territorial police force responsible for policing the county of Sussex in South East England.
This placement project is an evaluation of the Community Advocates for Reconciliation and Engagement (CARE) team in Sussex. The team’s core purpose is to provide independent, critical feedback to the police, ensuring that diverse community perspectives are heard and considered. CARE teams help challenge internal thinking, scrutinise operational practices, and promote inclusive policing by maintaining an outsider perspective and resisting institutionalisation. They are a vital mechanism for building trust and legitimacy between the police and the communities they serve.
They are looking to address the following questions:
- How does the CARE team scrutinise operational practices and identify and deliver critical feedback to the police and with what effect?
- How well is the CARE team ensuring community involvement and voice in policing decision making?
- How is the CARE team ensuring that diverse perspectives are included in its activity?
